5 Things I’m Loving Lately

Happy Tuesday! This week I’m off in the mountains of California backpacking, exploring caves and doing other things I’m loving. How’s your week? Hope everyone’s staying cool out there.

I like to keep up with a lot of blogs for fun. Originally I found them when I wasn’t yet on social media and was looking for recipes, style ideas, and articles about stuff I enjoyed. Over time I found a blog held my interest if I was invested in the lives of the people behind the blog. Some of those few bloggers do some variation on “5 Things I’m Loving,” in which they breezily discuss their favorite things. Because I’m off enjoying myself, here’s a light post on five things that I’ve enjoyed lately. None of these are sponsored! These are just things that I like in my life.

Chick-fil-a Salads

In order to get some food service experience this summer, I’m working at Chick-fil-a and couldn’t be happier there. The people are amazing, I’m learning a lot, and the food is the bomb! I have a couple orders I like to rotate through, but a favorite lately has been the salads. Chick-fil-a offers a Spicy Southwestern Salad that I love. Both the Avocado Lime Ranch and Creamy Salsa pair amazingly, but I’ll occasionally ask for the Jalapeño Salsa instead.

Ipsy Subscription

I love makeup, but I hate the guesswork of figuring out which brands are decent. So ever since I’ve started college, I’ve been getting Ipsy bags, which send five sample size makeup products! At first, I got bags monthly, but now I have enough makeup to get a bag every other month.

Over time, they’ve put less focus on personalization and instead shifted to making the bag’s contents more complimentary. There’s pros and cons to both, but lately I’ve enjoyed bags that I can create a basic look from. Whatever I get, it always feels like a present came when my bag shows up!

Morning Brew

Fun fact about me: I didn’t like coffee until college, but I was a 10 year-old going on 30 because I loved to read the paper even as a kid. Today as a college student with all the responsibilities, but none of the money, a paper doesn’t fit my budget and I don’t have the time for it. What I do like is Morning Brew, a newsletter with major headlines that I get in my e-mail every morning. It focuses mainly on business, but hits most of the highlights–enough that I know what’s going on in the world. Now I drink my coffee and get my paper for free (at least for the paper 😉 ). This Hiking Snacks Article

Something that you should know is important in backpacking: food. Walking all day while carrying everything that you need, especially over rolling terrain, requires a constant supply of energy! Because of that, my mom, a fellow backpacker, sent me this hiking snack hacks article. While these ideas aren’t something I’d advise eating regularly, hiking is one of the few times people consider calories and quick energy first. I can’t wait to try some of these ideas on the trail, especially that PB&J stroopwafel!

Bulk Aisle

While we’re discussing snacks, sometimes I go grocery shopping and know I’ll be in the mood for a midnight snack/dessert. The local grocery store I shop at has the bulk/nutrition section right by the front, so it’s an easy go-to! Lately, I’ve been loving banana chips–regular or chocolate-covered if I’m feeling crazy ;), spicy plantain chips, and chocolate-covered espresso beans. The bulk aisle is also a great place to get spices and can have cheaper beans, nuts, and other staples.

That’s it for this week! We’ll be back to more college– and dietetics-related posts next Tuesday.

What’s something you’re loving this week?

Until next time,
Emmalee
